Sight Words
Sight words are high -frequency words that we do not need to "sound-out". They are words that good readers know "in a snap". As a child develops a knowledge of sight words, her fluency increases.
The list of sight words that I use most frequently in my teaching is called the Dolch List. Here is a link to that list from a fellow teacher's site. You can use this list to create flash cards at home. Start with 5-10 words at a time, and don't move on until your child is confident!
