2023-24 Readers Rumble Club
When does the Gorsebrook Readers Rumble Club Meet?
Thursdays at lunchtime in Ms. Earley's Room - 215.
Which teachers are involved?
Your lead teachers are Ms. U, Mr. Donahoe, Mr. Desormeau (Mr. D), Ms. Earley, and our librarian, Ms. Maley.
What is the Readers Rumble competition?
The Middle School Readers Rumble is a new, friendly competition for middle school students (Grades 7-8) to be held on Thursday, April 25th, 2024 at Armbrae Academy. It is similar to the Battle of the Books, previously held by Woozles. Prior to the competition, teams will read from a list of books. At the competition, teams will answer trivia questions to win. To prepare, students simply need to read from the list. The plot-based questions will all have the same answer style: book title and author. When it comes down to it, memorizing titles and authors is the key to success.
Wait, I am in grade 9. Can I participate?
Grade 9 is not considered "Middle School" so you cannot compete, BUT you are welcome to come to our club on Thursdays, to read, discuss, and perhaps do some coaching. We would love to see you.
Who makes up the questions?
A team of people associated with the competition. Not teachers.
How can I find the list of books to read?
The Readers Rumble book list is here.
Do I have to read all the books?
As team, you should read all the books. Team members can divide up the reading list and read independently.
Will there be a Google Classroom?
Yes. The classroom code is ma2ecne, or click here.
Will all the books be available at school?
We aim to have at least one copy of each title at Gorsebrook soon. You can also buy your own copies at Agricola St. Books (there is a Readers Rumble discount) or borrow from the Halifax library.
How many teams are there, and how many people can be on each team?
Each team can be 3-4 readers, with 2 spares. We can register as many teams as we like.
Can I choose my team?
Lead teachers will assist in creating teams based on reading interest.
I'm "late to the party." Can I still join?
It depends how late, but short answer: we'd love to have you on board in some capacity. See Ms. Earley.
What if I have a reading disability, ADHD or another barrier to reading?
No limits! You should join without fear. We will find you audio books, and help you.
What if English is my second language?
You are welcome to join this competition without fear. We will help you.
Which other schools will we competing against?
Not sure yet. Definitely Armbrae Academy.
Will we win?
