About Program Planning at the HRCE
Supporting Students
Resource and Learning Centre teachers work with classroom teachers, other specialists to provide academic support, social skills, and/or life skills programming.
Sometimes, Learning Centre and Resource Support is "direct" which means the teacher has contact with a student in the Learning Centre, or in another classroom. Sometimes the support is "indirect" which means that the student is supported through collaboration with the Student Planning Team* and/or specialists.
What is Program Planning?
The "Program planning process" refers to the way we plan for all students in who need additional support/s in school. It's a process that is governed by Nova Scotia provincial education policy and our provincial inclusive education policy.
These links have more information about the program planning process:
What is the "Teaching Support Team (TST)"?
During the program planning process, you may hear us refer to the "Teaching Support Team" "Team," or TST. The TST is a core team that meets regularly (usually every week) to support teachers.
What is the "Student Planning Team (SPT)"?
The Student Planning team is a team that supports individual students, as described below (note: it used to be called "Program Planning Team). If you are a parent or guardian, then you are an important member of your child's Student Planning Team.
